A black and white photograph of Jack Bickley taken on his journey through North Africa and Italy during World War Two. An inscription on the reverse side states 'Jack in the jersey Kit knitted'. Jack pictured showing the jersey off, more than likely in Italy, with its cold winters. Knitted by his sister Kit, Jack referred to this as his 'good khaki jersey'. Part of the Jack Bickley collection. John Wallace (Jack) Bickley, born in Riverton in 1915, was undergoing teacher training in Dunedin in 1940 when he enlisted in the army and served overseas World War Two, returning to NZ in November 1945. Marrying his sweetheart Irene on 26th December 1945 and beginning his teaching career he taught until 1975 and passed away in 1978 in Arrowtown. Irene passed away in 2012.
