A black and white photograph of fishing nets in the town of Senigallia in Italy. During the First World War, the town and its port were devastated by intensive shelling by units of the Austro-Hungarian Navy led by the battleship SMS Zrínyi. The town was also badly damaged by a powerful earthquake in 1930 and during the Second World War Believed to be part of a set of photographs purchased by Jack Bickley. Photograph part of the Jack Bickley collection. John Wallace (Jack) Bickley, born in Riverton in 1915, was undergoing teacher training in Dunedin in 1940 when he enlisted in the army and served overseas World War Two, returning to NZ in November 1945. Marrying his sweetheart Irene on 26th December 1945 and beginning his teaching career he taught until 1975 and passed away in 1978 in Arrowtown. Irene passed away in 2012.
