Aviation RAF Royal Air Force. Avro Vulcan B1 Nuclear Bomber, XA897. Crowd of Onlookers. This Aircraft was the First Vulcan Delivered to the RAF. In !956 On a Demonstration Flight it Came to Australia and New Zealand. Returning to The UK at Heathrow Airport on 1 October 1956 XA897 crashed while attempting to land in poor weather. The captain and co-pilot, the only ones with ejection seats were able to use them and survived, but the remaining three crew and one passenger, an Avro Technician, all died. 19/09/1956.
