Book, All Fall Down Lost Chimneys of Christchurch

Shared by Glentunnel Museum, Canterbury, New Zealand

In this book Professor Rice has created a visual history of Christchurch chimneys – domestic, commercial and industrial, most of which no longer exist due to the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. While noting the quirky and unusual, it also attempts to document the typical styles of successive periods, from late Victorian to Art Deco and the latest versions on new houses, that serve as reminders of the diverse heritage of the European chimney. Included are photos and information about the Homebush Brick and Tile Works at Glentunnel where many of these chimneys were produced. Illustrated throughout with monochrome and colour images and drawings.
