The Otorohanga Kiwi House/Native Bird Park is situated at the gateway to the world famous Waitomo Caves, and is one of a very few parks that specialise in New Zealand's native fauna/flora. The kiwi and tuatara are the park's specialised areas of interest, but many other species can be observed here, notably the saddleback, kokako, kakariki, kereru, New Zealand falcon, kaka, blue duck, Auckland Island teal and brown teal. By far the most dominant structure within the park is the huge walk-through aviary, the first walk-through aviary to be built in New Zealand.
