We are based at Hillmorton Hospital sharing a building with the Hereford Centre. We are normally on site from 9am to 1pm, Monday and Friday. By appointment, we can have a guide on site at other times.

We have a mini-classroom to cater for small community groups like Probus, U3A, etc.

A major effort is our 40 static public displays throughout Christchurch’s hospitals, clinics, health centres and labs. This includes the Stephen Clark Microscope Collection in the public foyer of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences on the Christchurch Hospital campus. At the Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Heritage Trust, we have equipped a school dental clinic and a doctor’s surgery.

We collect historic artefacts, photographs, books and documents relating to all aspects of health care: medical, nursing, lab, administration, etc., to extend our health care history knowledge base.

The late Pat Cotter, our founder, amassed biographical notes on a thousand Canterbury doctors from 1830 to the present. Brief details of this collection can be accessed via The Community Archive and we welcome enquiries.
