The Ōtorohanga Museum has been collecting and safeguarding the taonga and historical records, whakapapa/genealogies, social histories, historical maps and documents of the Ōtorohanga District since 1974. The museum complex includes the 1913 NZ Heritage Listed courthouse, 1909 Anglican Church, 1896 Police Lock Up & Police Office (the oldest existing buildings in Ōtorohanga) and Te Waonui o Tãne, which houses a unique, partially-carved waka and a significant collection of Ngati Mãniapoto artefacts.
