The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū is the public art gallery for the Nelson region. Established in 1899 as a memorial to Bishop Andrew Burn Suter, the second Bishop of Nelson, The Suter is the oldest regional art gallery in New Zealand. The gallery holds a significant collection of watercolour landscapes by John Gully (1819 – 1888) and more than 100 paintings by Toss Woollaston (1910 – 1998), one of New Zealand’s leading modernist painters.
