The Dunsandel Historic Society (DHS) started in 1978 and members endeavour to promote interest in and encourage the recording of local history for Dunsandel and surrounding districts in Canterbury, New Zealand.

A photographic collection was started early and has grown to approximately 3000 scanned and native digital photos.

Members have published four books on the district and are happy to endeavour to assist with family and local history enquiries.

The DHS purchased the "Old Methodist Church" on State Highway 1, Dunsandel, in 1986 and until recently members run it as a craft shop. Now they have a new archive in the Dunsandel Community Centre.

The DHS has arranged displays and marked anniversaries and recently celebrated the 2022, sesquicentennial of Dunsandel Township. The local schools' sesquicentennial will be in 2029.

If you are interested in local history we welcome you to join our society.
