A Beautiful Place

This is a unique, award-winning multi-cultural facility.

Two museums sit side by side in a 2,000 sq m building, that's part of a Cultural Park featuring several other Māori, Dutch and pioneering attractions. It's a place that can easily keep the entire family entertained, for the day.

The Piriharakeke Generation Inspiration Centre showcases taonga from Ngati Raukawa ki te Tonga. These include traditional and modern weaving, carving, and taonga puoro - from early times to today.

The Oranjehof Dutch Connection Centre features art and objects from Abel Tasman's time to today. The stories focus on the Dutch immigration waves to Aotearoa - from the late 1940s onwards.

The Foxton Hub tells the story of pioneering days - a thriving flax industry, a booming town, and the good old Foxton Fizz...

Plenty of Stories to Explore
Discover Māori, Dutch and pioneering history, in an exquisite setting. Museums, a gallery, and exhibitions let you reflect on your own heritage and your family’s roots.

Explore stories that reflect the beauty of our diverse nation. Different strands of culture and language are woven together into one homely, exceptional place.

Built in Partnership
As the centre-piece of Te Awahou Riverside Cultural Park, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom is a living, breathing celebration of identity and diversity. This is a showcase of what can be achieved in a multi-cultural partnership.

Tangata whenua, the Dutch immigrant community and Horowhenua District Council came together to build this beautiful facility. Our message at the entrance: “We all connect to this place and from this place we thrive”.

Come and experience world-class, in a small town. Its smart looks and impressive story-telling, have won Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom a number of top ‘excellence’ museum and architecture awards.
