Cobblestones Museum is situated in the small Wairarapa town of Greytown - named after the first Governor of New Zealand, Sir George Grey. Cobblestones is established on the historical land of the original Hastwells coaching stable for Cobb & Co, the Wellington to Wairarapa mail and passenger service from 1866. The museum's name is derived from the original cobblestones in front of the stables. There is a corner store from 1874, a colonial cottage from 1862, the Wairarapa's first public hospital from 1875 and Wairarapa's first purpose-built Wesleyan Church in Greytown built in 1865, the Donald Woolshed (1858) which was Wairarapa's first purpose built woolshed, a century-old gazebo, and a single-teacher school from 1902. It also features stationary engines, horse drawn vehicles, the 'Pride of the Valley' - a 1906 horse drawn coach, a blacksmith's shop, historic printing presses, a wishing well and stationary water wheel.
