Now 105 years later, and following a nationally significant redevelopment project, Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery is proudly open at Pukenamu Queen’s Park. The heritage building has been earthquake strengthened, lovingly restored and extended with the addition of a new modern wing called Te Pātaka o Tā Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa, dedicated to Tā Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa KNZM, the loved and respected kaumātua and inspirational leader from the Whanganui river.
Now holding a nationally significant permanent collection of more than 8,000 items spanning four centuries of European and New Zealand art history, Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery hosts a dynamic programme of exhibitions and events.
Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery is an important community asset that can be accessed for free by locals and visitors alike.
We look forward to welcoming you.
