The University Art Collection is displayed throughout public spaces on the Turitea Campus. The Collection focuses on contemporary New Zealand artists, in particular artists working in the Lower North Island. In recent years the collection has been strengthened by the acquisition of contemporary Māori work and greater emphasis on landscapes and figurative work.
The aim of the Collection is to enhance the cultural environment of the University for its community and to foster an appreciation of the visual arts. Linking the Collection with coursework is also important. The Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts, Museum Studies, Information Technology, among others, regularly integrate the Collection into their offerings.
Established in 1985.
