The museum is located in the historic WWI Memorial Library and has permanent colamining exhibits, reflecting the coalmining past of the district. ; Other permanent exhibitions include military, engineering and printing exhibits, as well as an Art Gallery with changing exhibitions.

The museums has strong military and vintage motorcycle collections, and a supporting photography collection.

Annual events include a Youth Art Expo, Anzac Day exhibition and Transport Expo. Bookbinding demonstrations are given.
