Apothecary weight set in wooden box
Shared by Cromwell Museum
Vintage apothecary microid metric weights stored in a wooden box. Apothecary weights were used to measure medicinal drugs. Inside the velvet lined box are a part set of weights: eight brass weights ranging from 1 gram to 100 grams and seven tin weights with measurements in decigrams, centigrams and milligrams. There is a recess for a pair of tweezers but these are missing. The inside top of the lid has a padded velvet pad. The box is fastened with a swing clip and two hinges. Donor's note: This weight set was used to weigh small samples of "wash" by panning, to determine if sluicing the area was likely to uncover gold.
