Mother of pearl brooch
Shared by Katherine Mansfield House & Garden
Katherine Mansfield and her friend Ida Baker found this mother-of-pearl brooch in a second-hand jewellery shop in London. They called it 'The Little Eye'. Katherine saved up to purchase it and kept it until her death. Baker had the brooch for many years after Katherine's death, then gave it to Margaret Scott who transcribed and edited Mansfield's letters and journals for publication in full. Scott then passed it onto Mansfield biographer Kathleen Jones, who has loaned it to Katherine Mansfield House & Garden.
