Waiau Area School (WAS) - Anzac Art for Community Archive 2024
Shared by Central & Western Murihiku Southland Archive
WAS or Waiau Area School student - Ruby, specifically gifted this piece of Anzac Art to the Community Archive Heritage Hub 10.05.2024. On visiting the School to photograph their Anzac Crosses today, we were presented with this wonderful piece of art, made by Ruby, a student there. We were also given permission to collect all the other students Anzac Art from 2024, which will soon be featured in the online archives. Ruby instructed her teacher this art was to be gifted to us. The sweetest part of the exchange was reported to us, as Ruby being told if she gifted us the art she would not get it back, to which she replied that it didn't matter, she wanted us to have it. How lovely! And how lucky for us. It is especially important for us to engage with our community and especially our tamariki and to treasure their involvement in our local/district history. We are very honoured to be the recipient of this beautiful art, which commemorates Anzac Day and the sacrifice our soldiers made, from the Tūātapere township and surrounds. Kia ora Ruby, thank you for this. If you or anyone you know has any more information to share about this art or Ruby, please share this with us in the comments section. You can do this by making a comment in the space provided under the image page. Or find our contact details on our archive heading page. Kia ora.
