John and Margaret Hocking travelled from England to Nelson, New Zealand in 1878. Margaret Hocking (nee Oats) was born in Cornwall and worked as a domestic servant after finishing school. On 1 August 1878 she married John Hocking a miner also from Cornwall and just 7 days later they boarded the Edwin Fox on their way to a new life in New Zealand...
