Bottle, 'Woods' Great Peppermint Cure'
Shared by Wyndham and District Historical Museum
This is a clear glass rectangular shaped bottle with 'Woods' Great Peppermint Cure For Coughs & Colds' embossed on the front. Advertised as 'unequalled and invincible' Woods' Great Peppermint Cure claimed to cure coughs and colds and was the creation of Hawkes Bay chemist, W. E. Woods. Woods first set up shop in Hastings in 1881 before moving to Wellington and eventually to Sydney, where he died in 1927. His company, W. E. Woods & Co., New Zealand remained active after his death. This bottle is part of a large collection of chemist's equipment which came from the old Wyndham pharmacy in Balaclava Street. This was the United Friendly Society Dispensary, known as the UFS.
